Greg Abbott’s team kick off their bid for glory against Russell Slade’s Os on Saturday, August 3. The Blues will be desperate for a better outcome against the London outfit than last season, when Slade’ s men inflicted a 4-1 defeat on United at Brunton Park and then repeated the same scoreline in the capital.
The new fixtures for the League One season were unveiled this morning. Carlisle’s first away game of the new season is to promoted Bradford, where Abbott spent nearly a decade as a player. The first month of the season continues with a home clash with Coventry and trips to Colchester and Brentford.
There is a Christmas cracker for Abbott’s side in the form of a Boxing Day clash with Preston at Brunton Park. United are at home again over the festive period when they entertain relegated Peterborough on December 29. On New Year’s Day they go to Crewe for the second time in successive seasons, while Easter weekend sees fixtures at home to Walsall and away to Peterborough.
Among this season’s most anticipated games will be against title favourites Wolves, who are in League One after back-to-back relegations. They will entertain the Midlands outfit on October 12 – but must wait until the final game of the season, on May 3, for the chance to visit Molineux. The final home game of the campaign comes a week earlier, when Oldham come to Brunton Park.
