It's into the section of 25 unseeded clubs that United go then after defeating Accrington Stanley 1-0 at the opening hurdle on Saturday. The Blues, in a non-regionalised home or away draw seeing a few big fish out there with 13 Premier League clubs now joining the competition. The only sides still absent at this stage being the seven clubs that are in Europe this season, those being Arsenal, Chelsea, cup holders Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur.
There are still some potentially nice looking home draws though with clubs like Burnley, Everton, Leeds United and Sunderland all in the bag based on last season's league positions. One side that won't be there though are last season's finalists Cardiff City who surprisingly lost 2-1 at Northampton Town tonight, while Stevenage, Carlisle's opponents on Saturday in their first League One game of the new campaign, have progressed safely into round two after defeating AFC Wimbledon 3-1 at home this evening.
As for the second round draw itself, well that is on SKY Sports News at around 12.30pm on Wednesday lunchtime, with the list of 25 seeded and 25 unseeded teams which will be drawn against each other visible below. After the second round meanwhile, which takes place during the week commencing Monday 27th August, we hit round three where the seven remaining Premier League clubs join the 25 second stage winners to make it a normal 'round of 32', 'round of 16' etc. format from that point on.
