His departure comes after he lost his talent-spotting job with Gretna. "He said it had taken him three-and-a-half hours to get to Workington for a home game," Reds manager Cassidy added. "He didn't want to leave, but I can see where he's coming from."
37-year old Cowan made 59 appearances, and scored three goals, for Carlisle in his injury-hit time at Brunton Park. Cowan joined the club in November 2003 with his last game for the Blues being the Nationwide Conference play-off final victory over Stevenage Borough at the Britannia Stadium in May 2005.
