The Championship outfit have been regular viewers at Brunton Park over the years, picking up Allan Smart and Nick Wright in the 1990's, and this evening they have snapped up another Carlisle frontman in Danny Graham. The Gateshead-born striker having turned down a fresh contract to stay with the Cumbrians shortly after the end of last season.

After turning down a £250,000 offer from Huddersfield Town in January for Graham's services, United will be hoping to receive as much compensation as they can for the 23-year old due to the Bosman ruling and the fact that Graham was under the age of 24 at the time his contract ran out with Carlisle, as well as that he had been offered a new deal at Brunton Park. Although the official Watford website is hilariously trying to claim that "there is a possibility of compensation to Carlisle."

Danny had a rotten run at the end of last season as he failed to find the net in his last 18 games for the Cumbrians. His 40 goals in 102 starts, plus 11 substitute appearances, since signing on a free transfer from Middlesbrough in June 2007, will be a big hole to fill for the Blues though, and with money tight at Brunton Park the search to find a proven goalscorer to replace him will be a difficult one.
