And highly-rated former Bolton centre-half Livesey, 22, said the prospect of an exciting future under manager-in-waiting Abbott was one of the reasons behind his decision to sign :
"Last season the gaffer (McDonald) told me that if I came back looking sharp and fit, we would sit down and talk about things. He pulled me in last week and said they were looking to give me a contract, but nothing more was really discussed.
"So when he left I was wondering what was going to happen. But Greg told me straight away that the contract was still there as far as he was concerned. And I'm absolutely delighted to sign it. I like the look of how things are going to go with Greg. I've got a good feeling about the place.
"We've had success since I came and now I'm hoping to get more of the same. After two promotions and a good season last year it's important the club keeps going in the right direction. And for me it is. "Who wouldn't want to be a part of something like that?"
Livesey joined United in the Conference on Christmas Day 2004, and is now regarded as one of the most important members of the team, renowned for his bravery and never-say-die approach in defence.
