Double Delight For Danny And Arnie

Danny Livesey
21-year old Livesey was another played to join then manager Paul Simpson's revamped United side way back in the 2004-05 Nationwide Conference, the centre-half joining the club from Bolton on a free transfer in late December 2004. Danny then making his debut in the Cumbrians' 1-1 draw at Morecambe, the Salford-born defender then going on to make 73 appearances, plus two as a substitute for the Blues, scoring eight goals in the process to date.

Livesey had loan spells with Blackpool, Rochdale and Notts County while at Premiership side Bolton, a club where he began his career as a scholar in September 2002, Danny quickly making his Trotters debut on the 14th of that month against Liverpool, first-team opportunites were limited though at the Reebok Stadium and Carlisle were sharp to snap him up as soon as he became available on a free transfer.

Danny has struggled a bit for first-team opportunites this season but with the patchy form of the aging Kevin Gray in the heart of the United defence he looks all set for a bright future at Brunton Park, hopefully alongside Blues stalwart Peter Murphy. Livesey has played very well for the reserves though and has become a bit of a second-string hotshot, scoring three goals already this season in just five games.

Paul Arnison
Paul Arnison meanwhile joined the club in late October 2003 on a free transfer from Hartlepool, and has gone on to make 98 appearances, plus 23 as a used substitute for United, the right-back scoring just the one goal in the process - that coming in a 2-0 defeat of Torquay less than two months into his Carlisle career. Surprisingly for a 29-year old defender "Arnie" has never been sent off although he has seen yellow 25 times in his career.

The Hartlepool-born right-back started his career at Newcastle United, where he failed to make an appearance, before joining Hartlepool, initially on loan in March 2000, and then on a permanent basis on a free transfer before transfer deadline day that year. Paul made 77 appearances, plus 24 as a used substitute in his time at the 'Pool, scoring three goals in the process.

Arnison is another player to have found it difficult to cement a first-team place this season though, the 29-year old often only making the substitutes bench due to the summer signing of David Raven. Ex-Liverpool right-back Raven has often been injured though and that has allowed "Arnie" to feature in the starting eleven more times than expected.
