New Grecians boss Paul Tisdale has this morning agreed terms on a deal with Edwards and the 33-year old will undergo a medical at St James' Park on Thursday as he looks to complete the move. Tisdale telling the official City club website about the signing : " Rob is a quality footballer and will add experience to our defensive unit. He has ability to play in more than one position and I am delighted he has agreed to join us."

Edwards has made over 400 Football League appearances in a career that started in Carlisle before he moved on to Bristol City, Preston North End and Blackpool. The Cockermouth-born defender winning four full international caps for Wales along the way, before he was released by the Tangerines at the end of last season.

Rob has recently been on trial with the Blues, although Carlisle boss Neil McDonald was seemingly unlikely to offer Edwards any kind of deal on a permanent basis. The 33-year old turning out for the Cumbrians in their pre-season friendly games at Southport and Dunfermline as a substitute as he looked to keep his fitness going through the summer months. McDonald had expected Edwards to move to Rochdale, but if the Spotland club were interested then they have been gazumped by Nationwide Conference outfit Exeter this morning.
