The groupings for this season's EFL Trophy competition have been finalised today with United set to face Blackburn Rovers, Fleetwood Town and Oldham Athletic in Group D of the round-robin opening stage phase.
The Cumbrians were put in Northern Section 1 along with Blackburn, Everton, Stoke and Wolves from the Category 1 clubs, with six teams from League 1 and six from League 2 making up the rest of the mix.
The first game of the group stage is to be played week beginning 29 August 2016.
