Replacing him for a month though is 20-year old versatile defender or midfielder Corry Evans, who played at centre-back for Manchester United reserves during the 2008-09 season, but who now seems to feature in more of a central midfield role. The Belfast-born youngster though still waiting to make his debut competitive level first-team appearance for the Old Trafford giants having been an unused substitute on four occasions.
Evans moved to Old Trafford from Greenisland Boys FC, joining his older brother Jonny, where he came through the Academy ranks before eventually signing a professional contract with the Red Devils in the summer of 2009. Corry playing for Manchester United as a schoolboy in his early days before he signed a trainee deal in July 2006.
Internationally, Evans has represented Northern Ireland all the way up from under-16 level to the full side, making his debut at the highest grade in a 3-0 defeat in Italy in June 2009. The 20-year old has gone on to earn eight caps for the Wee Country, three of them as starts and five of them off the bench, with his one goal at that level coming in a 1-0 win in Slovenia last month.
As far as domestic action is concerned, Evans has recently been looking to earn a loan move away from Old Trafford as he told the Belfast Telegraph in September:
" Getting onto the bench in a Carling Cup game is more progress for me and it's great to get that recognition. Hopefully there will be managers who will see me on the bench or if I come on and want to take me on-loan. I need to get out for a while and be tested at a higher level.
" Playing reserve team football at Manchester United isn't challenging me anymore. We played at Bury the other night and beat them 5-1. Some of the games are too easy because of the quality we have. I need to get experience and then come back to United and fight for a first-team place. "
