FA Cup Second Round Draw Details

The FA Cup
First up for the Cumbrians is the first round step of defeating the Black Country side at Brunton Park on Saturday afternoon though, but not only is the competition a good chance to progress to the third round for a potential payday but there is also the opportunity to stick £45,000 in the coffers on the way.

The prize fund, which in these times of recession is down by about 5% to 10% in each "proper" round from last season, breaks down thus :

First Round Proper Winners - £18,000
Second Round Proper Winners - £27,000
Third Round Proper Winners - £67,500
Fourth Round Proper Winners - £90,000
Fifth Round Proper Winners - £180,000
Sixth Round Proper Winners - £360,000
Semi-Final Losers - £450,000
Semi-Final Winners - £900,000
Final Loser - £900,000
Final Winner - £1,800,000

In the Second Round Proper the draw is NOT regionalised so if the Blues win through tomorrow and are given an away day we could find ourselves anywhere from Hartlepool to Yeovil. The draw will be broadcast live on ITV1 and the FA website at around 2pm following the Southport v Sheffield Wednesday tie, and if we can get past Tipton Town then Blues fans will be on tenterhooks as we wait for the number THIRTY-ONE ball to appear and the name of Carlisle United to be read out.

As for the draw itself, well that will be made from Wembley Stadium by two Presenters of ITV's Daybreak, Dan Lobb, a Southampton fan, and Kate Garraway, who follows Gillingham. One of the ball numbers already down to one side as the first cup shock of the opening round came at Spotland this evening when Evo-Stik Premier League outfit FC United of Manchester defeated Rochdale 3-2 thanks to a controversial injury time goal from Mike Norton.
