McAlindon started his career with Newcastle United and went on to make around fifty League appearances for Carlisle. The 29-year-old has since had spells with Scarborough, Gateshead, Blyth Spartans and Bedlington Terriers before joining Fed last year.
Director of football Bob Morton said: “When a player the likes of Gareth become available, clubs move heaven and earth to capture them. He will give the team that extra edge in midfield and his acquisition will give the squad a lift.”
Former Ross County and Gateshead midfielder Stephen Buzzeo makes the opposite journey, signing for Dunston Fed from the Wheatsheaf club.
