As a local lad the 23-year old striker started his career at Workington AFC, then moving to Wilmington Hammerheads in the US after regularly hitting the back of the net with the Reds. His stay in the States didn't last long though and he moved back to Cumbria to join Barrow in October 2004, where he scored nine goals in nine games, before then United boss Paul Simpson decided to take him on trial at Brunton Park.
23-year old Glenn moved to Stockport County on a temporary basis at the start of August this season and made 11 starts for the League Two club, scoring three goals in the process before his two-month loan spell ended. Two of those goals coming in a 2-1 win at home to Bristol Rovers on the 3rd of September, Murray's other goal coming in a 1-1 draw against Accrington Stanley at Edgeley Park four games into the season.
Dale's boss Steve Parkin commented to his club's official website on the move :
"We are delighted to have finally got him because we have been chasing him for around six weeks. He is a player who is full of energy, enthusiasm and bags of desire and we are really glad we could bring him to the football club.
"Neil McDonald has been very amicable throughout in the way things have been dealt with.We have asked the question two or three times and the answer has always been no, but circumstances have changed a little bit and we were delighted the answer the other day was a yes.
"Glenn wanted to come and it is very much a loan deal with a view to looking at him in the January transfer window and he gives us another good string to our bow. We have been running with three strikers on the pitch all season and with just four on the books we are always going to run the risk of being short."
Meanwhile Glenn himself said on the transfer :
"There were a few clubs interested in taking me which is nice to know but for me Rochdale was the pick of the bunch. I used to play on the same Unibond team Workington as Grant Holt when we were younger and I've spoke to him a few times and he has always spoken highly of Rochdale.
"It always helps going to a club that is playing well and getting results and that is the case with Rochdale, we are sitting in a nice position in the division and it is time to just kick on from here.
"It was two weeks ago when I learned of Rochdale's interest in me Neil McDonald just called me into his office. He said that Steve Parkin had called him with a view to going to Spotland and asked me if I was interested. It has taken until now to sort everything out and I'm delighted to be here."
