Simon Grand
23-year old defender Grand, who linked up with the Blues in the summer of 2004 on a free transfer from Rochdale, made his move to Blundell Park on loan in search of regular first-team football in early January 2007, in a deal worked out so that he could play for Town that night in their 2-0 home defeat against Chester City.

Simon then linking up with the Mariners shortly afterwards on a permanent basis for a "nominal fee" though, with his contract at Carlisle running out this summer. Grand having been an unused substitute more times than he had started matches with the Cumbrians, at 39 to 38, Simon having also been a used replacement 13 times while chipping in with six goals for the Blues.

The Chorley-born centre-half will now be looking for yet another club this summer though after hearing the news that he will be released by the Mariners, after making just four starts, and three substitute appearances at Blundell Park. Town boss Alan Buckley also letting go Matt Bloomer, Gary Croft and Robert Murray, Buckley saying :

"I've finished speaking to the lads now. The fans are aware of the ones that we've agreed things with. I'm still talking to Gary Jones and his agent a little bit about next season. Decisions have been made with Crofty, Rob Murray, Matthew Bloomer and Simon Grand. Macca (John McDermott) has made his decision (to retire) too and they will all be leaving the club. There is no problem with Ciaran (Toner). I'm confident Ciaran will sign his contract when he is ready."
