The Birmingham-born midfield man joined the Cumbrians on the 24th of March 2005 for a nominal fee from Mansfield Town and made 44 starts for the Cumbrians, plus eight as a substitute, scoring just four goals in the process. It was no secret that Murray wasn't played in his best position under ex-Carlisle manager Paul Simpson, Adam finding himself stuck out on the right-hand side of midfield, when he would have much preferred to play inside.
His request for a transfer before the season even started came as something of a shock though, although with Torquay now being the 24-year old's seventh club of his career it could have been expected. Gulls boss, and ex-United manager Ian Atkins is more than pleased with the signing however, Atkins telling the official Torquay United website : " I must admit I'm surprised that the Chairman (Mike Bateson) has stuck his neck out financially for this deal but Adam Murray will make a big difference to us. He's played at a high level and the quality will show on the pitch. I just wish a few more supporters would turn up because we've shown our confidence in our future and in this season, but it will all be a waste of time and money if we don't get the backing from the public. "
