The ex-Woodley Sports flyer, who has been getting rave reviews of late, is now under contract with the Cumbrians until the summer of 2008 following the completion of his latest deal. Hackney joined the Blues way back in February 2005 under the management of Paul Simpson following a successful trial spell at Brunton Park in which he scored in both his appearances.

Simon made his first-team debut for the club in a GLS Cup tie away to Morecambe on the 16th of February 2005 and has gone from strenght to strength since then, making a total of 26 starts, plus 30 as a used substitute, while scoring eight goals in the process. It took the Manchester-born midfielder a while to get off the mark goalscoring wise though, but like London buses two came at once when he bagged a brace in a 5-0 home demolition of Rushden and Diamonds.

The news will be welcomed by all around Brunton Park with Hackney's up-and-at-em style of old-fashioned wing-play making him a firm favourite on the terraces. Simon has been playing in a slightly different role this season though under new Blues boss Neil McDonald as he has often plyed his trade in the centre of the midfield, a role which has seemingly given the youngster renewed confidence, and long may that continue.
