Veteran stopper Lance Key is expected to take up the position of goalkeeping coach, but the 39 year old still has aspirations to play on, and his presence will further increase the competition for the number one shirt. Naisbitt becomes the second player this week, and third in a year, to leave Milton Road for the Glass World Stadium following right-back Craig Pope's move across the A14 on Monday and Matt Langston's switch last summer.
The 28-year-old Naisbitt admitted he considered staying with Gary Roberts' City side but the opportunity to play at the top level of non-league football proved too tempting to resist. He said: "My contract was up at City and they had offered me a new one, but Gareth Baldwin phoned me to see if I would speak to Histon.
"I did think about staying with City and had offers from other clubs, but the chance to play in the Conference was a big reason for me moving to Histon. I am 99 per cent sure the Cambridge City fans will understand that. The Conference is a tricky division to play in, but I think the structure at Histon is right to be able to try to push on for a place in the Football League in a few years."
Naisbitt couldn't have had a much shorter loan spell at Brunton Park in his United days as he played just two games in a one month temporary switch from Barnet in the early stages of the 2002-03 season. Naisbitt starting in two 3-1 defeats away from home, one at Scunthorpe in the League and the other at Rotherham in the then Worthington (Football League) Cup.
