In news all United fans dreaded, after the deadline day sale of Michael Bridges, Carlisle are literally down to the bare bones upfront following the news, after an X-ray, that Hawley had indeed broken a rib at Gresty Road and will be out of contention for at least six weeks. The 24-year old striker's injury, which he picked up in a clash with Alex' keeper Ben Williams on Saturday, means Maryport-born frontman Glenn Murray, who has just returned from his loan spell at Stockport, comes straight into contention for the home game against Millwall this coming weekend.

On the "breaking news" Blues boss Neil McDonald commented to the News and Star :

"Karl was in fine form, He was putting the ball in the back of the net, which as a team we're not doing enough with the amount of chances we're creating. So when we got the X-ray results back it was very disappointing – to lose him for four or five weeks is a killer blow.

"We've got other players, so I wouldn't say it was urgent, but it's very important we try to bring somebody in. It hasn't been for the lack of trying so far – a lot of clubs have been unwilling or afraid to let their players come out. They say they are trying to protect their players, but they are doing that too much in my opinion."
