Howarth Makes Brunton Move Permanent

Howarth moved up to Cumbria, initially on a one-month loan spell on the 22nd of March, that temporary transfer later extended to the end of the season as Chris looked to earn a permanent deal with Carlisle. The 20-year old forced to see his future away from Bolton as he sat fourth in a queue of international goalkeepers at the Reebok Stadium behind Jussi Jaaskelainen (Finland), Ian Walker (England) and Ali Al-Habsi (Oman).

That competition seeing the native Boltonian only make one appearance on the bench for the Trotters as an unused substitute in a Carling Cup tie at home to Leicester in November 2005. Carlisle also being Howarth's third loanee club after the glovesman had already spent temporary spells at Stockport and Oldham.

With Anthony Williams now seemingly about to tie up a long-term deal at Wrexham the Blues were on the lookout for a replacement number two to Keiren Westwood. Howarth apparently fitting the bill in his trial period at Brunton Park as he now joins the Cumbrians on a two-year contract.
