Tony Kane
The Belfast-born defender initially joined Carlisle on a loan deal to the end of the season from Blackburn Rovers on the 10th of February, Kane going on to make just six starts and three substitute appearances in almost four months at Brunton Park.

Blues boss Greg Abbott was more than happy with the player though, and with Kane having no future at Ewood Park a deal was agreed on the 22nd of May to turn the loan move into a permanent one when the 21-year old's contract with Blackburn ran out at the end of June.

Various circumstances have meant that Kane didn't officially sign his two-year contract until late last night. The Northern Irelander now settling down again on a permanent basis having spent loan spells at three clubs, one of them Carlisle, in his time at Blackburn.

Kane initially having joined Rovers as a youth team player in 2004 only to make a grand total of zero appearances for the Ewood Park outfit in his three years there as a professional, from July 2006. Temporary spells at Stockport in November 2006 for four weeks, Belgian side Cercle Brugge in January 2007 for four months, and Stockport again in October 2008 being the order of the day for the young right-back.

Internationally Tony has played for Northern Ireland, at under-18 and under-19 level during the 2006-07 season, before switching allegiances to the Republic of Ireland under-21 side part way through that campaign. Kane then reverting back to the Northern Ireland age level of that team in early 2008, the Belfast child playing a total of five games for each country.

With Kane 22 this August though those under-21 international days are now gone and Tony has a new career at Carlisle United to concentrate on. His first job to no doubt try to oust first choice right-back David Raven as the pre-season gets going at Brunton Park.
