The Irish defender having been reported by Burnley boss Brian Laws on Saturday as being taken a look at by United following the long injury lay off for Danny Livesey. The middle of the Carlisle defence being somewhere that Blues boss Greg Abbott is looking to strengthen with first choice man Livesey sidelined for up to three months.
Long, signed for a six-figure fee from Cork City in January, has yet to be involved in a Burnley matchday eighteen but he did play on trial for 68 minutes of a 3-1 pre-season friendly win for MK Dons at St Neots Town on Saturday afternoon, and he will now spend the week with the Cumbrians at their training camp in Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire, Long also at this stage pencilled in to take part in Carlisle's friendly at Darlington on Friday evening.
Elsewhere in United's search for a Livesey replacement, 21-year old French centre-half Jean-Yves M'Voto, who played 82 minutes of Carlisle's 3-0 home pre-season friendly defeat against Newcastle on Saturday has asked for more time to consider his options as he mulls over a potential loan move from Sunderland. M'Voto, unlike Long, not joining the Blues down in Leicestershire this week.
