Four players have committed themselves to the Reds for the new season and include a goalkeeper, two defenders and a striker. Much sought-after goalkeeper Ashley Bayes joins from Grays Athletic, outstanding young defender Jamie Stevens joins from Evans' former club Boston United, centre-back Bradley Thomas from Yeovil Town and they are joined by Brazilian goalscoring striker Magno Vieira who counts Carlisle United and Barnet among his former clubs.

The 22-year-old South American scored 11 goals in 31 appearances, plus 12 as a substitute, for Carlisle between August 2004 and May 2005, when he was at the Blues on a season-long loan from Wigan Athletic. Vieira enjoyed a very successful spell in his time at Brunton Park as he helped United back into the Football League at the first attempt, although then manager Paul Simpson was unable to sign him on a permanent basis, after his release by the Latics, due to work permit and visa problems.
