Millwall Away In FA Cup Third Round

The FA Cup
The incentive for either United or the Railwaymen to put themselves through the mixer this week to get into the third round couldn't be more minimal now that the sides know that the victors will face a trip to the New Den in early January. Former England goalkeeper Ray Clemence being the guilty party as he pulled out ball number 61 after Sir Trevor Brooking had pulled out ball number 60, the balls obviously having been excellently shuffled around in the bowl.

It was only five days ago that Carlisle lost 1-0 away to Millwall in League One, Leeds loanee Tresor Kandol scoring the only goal of the game for the home side as the clock ticked into injury time to sink United hearts. Crewe meanwhile have yet to play the Lions this season, the Railwaymen though making the trip to the New Den for a league fixture on Saturday 20th December.

Somewhat unsurprisingly Blues skipper Paul Thirlwell was a bit underwhelmed with the draw, Thirwell commenting to BBC Radio Cumbria :

" I suppose that the draw depends which way you look at it. I was sat there like everyone else watching the draw and it is the nature of the beast is that you look for Man United or Arsenal to come out. Then when you see Millwall I'm sure that you think that it is the bread and butter if you like, and I am sure that they thought the same thing. The flip side of that though is that it is a great opportunity if we are fortunate and play well enough to get through Wednesday, it is a great opportunity to get into the fourth round. "
