The 31-year old Dubliner signed for Carlisle as a free agent way back in August 2001 now after being released by Blackburn Rovers, and has now made nearly 450 starts and almost 500 appearances in total in a United shirt. Murphy having this morning agreed to a further 12 month stay in Cumbria, in a deal which also includes further options at the end of it, more often than not based on a games played basis.
Peter's signature now means that all the contractual situations, barring a surprise return for Lubomir Michalik, Tom Taiwo or Francois Zoko, have been sorted out since the end of last season. It promises to be another busy time organising the squad come the closure of the 2012-13 campaign though, with both Greg Abbott and Graham Kavanagh out of contract to start with, alongside 13 players and 3 others in Murphy, Danny Livesey and Frank Simek who have options included at the end of their current one-year deals.
