A season starting game at Brunton Park for Carlisle has become a regular occurence in recent years, and it has proven to be the case again with United at home on the opening day for the 11th time in the last 14 years, the Blues also up overall historically over their 76 seasons at 41 home games and 35 away matches. Notts County being the League One opponents for the Cumbrians on Saturday 6th August this time around.
All quiet ahead of the visit of Notts County to Brunton Park on Saturday 6th August
Last season in League One the Blues defeated the Magpies 1-0 both at home and on the road in two very tight encounters, Gary Madine scoring the Carlisle winner at Brunton Park while Francois Zoko netted the only goal of the game at Meadow Lane. Historically United have played Notts County 11 times at home, winning six, drawing one and losing four, the matches generally being low scoring affairs with only 26 goals across those 11 games, Carlisle netting 14 and the Magpies bagging 12.
Away from the opening day United have two games away from home over the Christmas period, but at least they are two big ones for supporters to look forward to, the Blues travelling to Preston on Boxing Day and then Huddersfield on New Year's Eve. The New Year Bank Holiday game two days later then seeing the Cumbrians back at Brunton Park against another big club in Sheffield United. The final game of the season for United being a repeat of their first round Carling Cup draw as they make a trip down to Boundary Park to take on Oldham.
