Rangers XI 2-3 United

After drawing 2-2 at Kilmarnock last night the Cumbrians made the short journey across to Glasgow to take on a Rangers Xi, with the mainstay of the Gers being in action tomorrow in a Ramsden's Cup tie at Albion Rovers. The Carlisle line-up meanwhile featuring a mixture of youth and experience, with trialist goalkeeper Greg Fleming also between the sticks at kick-off.

Rangers took the lead in the 13th minute when an effort on goal looped up onto the crossbar only to be followed in by a home striker. United though pulling level with 50 minutes gone when Lee Miller headed a Dave Symington cross down for Kyle Dempsey to fire home. Carlisle then making it 2-1 just two minutes later when Lewis Guy knocked home the rebound after his initial shot had been saved.

With just five minutes to go though Rangers bundled home a close range leveller to make it 2-2, but United weren't to be denied their victory however as they grabbed the winning goal just sixty seconds later. Dempsey notching his second goal of the game with a wonder strike from 25 yards out which flew into the top corner of the net.
