Neil McDonald said the potential of young Ipswich loanee James Krause was one of the reasons behind his decision not to offer Cumbrian trialist Gari Rowntree a deal with Carlisle United. The United manager yesterday released the 19-year-old Workington-born left-back who had linked up with the Blues from Blackburn two weeks ago.
Rowntree played in Wednesday's 1-0 reserve defeat of Oldham, supplying United's goal for Gary Madine, and scored twice in the 3-1 Cumberland Cup win over Harraby Catholic Club the previous week. But McDonald said :
"I thought Gari did all right but I'm looking for a little bit more. Ziggy (Aranalde) is our main left-back and then we have got James Krause who has played a couple of games, done well and is working hard at his game with us. With Ziggy on nine bookings, James might get another chance soon.
"Gari has been told by Blackburn he is not going to be offered another contract and he came to us first to let us have a look at him. It's not nice having to tell a young lad you're not offering him anything. It's a difficult thing to have to do."
