The match was a dreadfully boring affair on a roasting hot night to be honest and at least Goodwin's winner for the Iron stopped the spectacle of a penalty shootout to decide the winners. Scunthorpe were the better side throughout, star striker Andy Keogh hammering a shot against the bar for the Iron in the first-half, Cleveland Taylor also seeing an effort well saved by James Spencer in the Stockport goal.
There were few clearcut chances after the break either, although County came back into the game a little, Liam Dickinson having a powerful shot blocked out by debutant Joe Murphy in the Iron goal after 48 minutes. Scunthorpe soon came back on strong though and always looked more likely to bag the winner, even after his 71st minute winner, Goodwin going close on another couple of occasions as the Iron looked to capitalise on the break. The score stayed at 1-0 however so Scunthorpe will face Carlisle in the final on Thursday night while Stockport will play UE San Jose in the third/fourth place play-off in 24 hours time.
