The game being called off following an 11.30am pitch inspection this morning after fans and groundstaff had from sun up been clearing overnight snow from the playing surface, something they had already had to do earlier in the week. But, with the pitch still partly frozen and temperatures forecast to plummet again this evening the sensible decision was taken to knock the fixture on the head before United travelled south for their overnight stay.
As far as Carlisle are concerned it means that the Blues will now, with no date yet confirmed for the rearranged fiuxture, have a tough run of away matches in March and April, while for their next game on the road, against another play-off rival in Brentford a week on Monday Lee Miller will be suspended. The talismanic United striker now seeing out his three match ban through the Tranmere home game this coming Tuesday evening and then that match at Griffin Park versus the Bees.
The club that has really been hit hard though is Stevenage, who face Spurs at home a week on Sunday in the fifth round of the FA Cup. The Hertfordshire outfit, on news of being drawn against Tottenham having introduced a voucher scheme for tickets on the back of home games against Oldham and Carlisle this week. The postponements of both of those matches though in which the Boro will understandably have expected bumper crowds will have cost them a serious packet financially, more than likely well into six figures.
