After the one month of signing of Joe Garner earler in the week Higginbotham becomes the fourth new loanee frontman for United this season, alongside Jake Jervis and Michael O'Halloran, with his spell at Brunton Park being the maximum length 93 day one allowed at this time of the campaign, with his final scheduled game being the away match at Scunthorpe on the 22nd of December.
Higginbotham began his career as a schoolboy with his home-town Salford City before moving on to Oldham in 2006 where he completed the first year of his YTS contract before being released and subsequently joining Rochdale in the summer of 2007. The early form of the frontman at Spotland then seeing him be awarded in December of that year with a long term contract to run up to the end of June 2010.
It wasn't all a straight upward curve though as two loan spells at Accrington Stanley came for a month across October and November in 2008, then for six weeks between January and March 2009, Kallum making five starts, seven substitute appearances and scoring no goals in his time with the Reds. Higginbotham also going onto and then quickly coming off the transfer list at Spotland at the end of the 2008-09 season as he began to find his feet a bit more with the 'Dale.
A record of 37 starts, 42 substitute appearances and seven goals wasn't enough to stop Higginbotham being released at the end of the season by Rochdale though, with his next port of call being Scottish Premier League side Falkirk, who signed the then 21-year old on a two-year deal at the beginning of July 2010. A successful spell with the Bairns over the course of 18 months then seeing Kallum join Huddersfield on a two and a half year deal for an undisclosed six figure fee on the final day of the 2012 January transfer window.
The Salfordian made 49 starts, substitute appearances and scored eight goals in his time at Falkirk but after only seven weeks at Huddersfield he actually moved up a division in late March to join Barnsley on loan in the Championship until the end of the season as the Oakwell club battled successfully against relegation, with Kallum making two starts and three substitute appearances for the Tykes before being recalled after his initial 28 days back to Town to join in with their play-off campaign.
Only five starts and two substitute appearances have come in Higginbotham's time with the Terriers though and he has now joined Carlisle on loan for some pitch time, where his best position is seemingly either playing as a deep lying second striker or behind the front two. Huddersfield having a 24 hour recall clause after the intiial 28 days of the 93 day loan spell that runs to the 22nd of December, while Kallum will be eligible to play in the Capital One Cup for United, but not in the FA Cup.
