Joyce is an 18 year-old who has been involved with the Latics first-team on three occasions this season, twice as an unused substitute, firstly in a home Carling Cup win over Watford in October and then in a February Premiership defeat to Liverpool. The other time he was a benchwarmer though he made his debut, taking shirt number 32, when he came on as a replacement for fellow midfield man Josip Skoko in the 100th minute of Wigan's Carling Cup penalty shoot-out victory over Leeds United at Elland Road.
Born in July 1987 Joyce joined Wigan as a trainee in the summer of 2004 and now links up with the Cumbrians who have taken over his scholarship contract with Wigan until the end of the current campaign. The youngster will then move on to a twelve month professional contract during the summer which will take him to the end of June 2007 on the Carlisle books.
Joyce apparently impressed in his central midfield role during the two big wins for the reserve team this week, 6-0 at Rochdale on Monday night and 5-2 at Wrexham on Wednesday afternoon. The ex-Latic featured as a trialist in those games along with Ben Christensen, a right-back from Sunderland, and Nicky Platt, another central midfielder, this time from Burnley. Any move for those two players now looks unlikely, and any further transfer movement in and out of Brunton Park is also extremely unlikely with the loan transfer window about to close, as I type, in sixty minutes time.
