Carlisle are looking to make it a hat-trick this season after winning the competition in 2011 and 2012 and after beating Celtic Nation 2-1 away, Longtown 3-0 at home, then thrashing Penrith Rangers 16-0 and sneaking past Carlisle City 1-0 at Brunton Park in the first four rounds, United have now been drawn at home once more as they are set to take on Penrith AFC in a match will be likely to take place in early April.
Penrith meanwhile have reached the semi-finals of the competition by hammering Wigton Athletic 15-0 at home, defeating Netherhall 2-1 on the road, surprisingly thumping Workington Reds 5-1 at Frenchfields, and then finally at the quarter-final stage beating another Workington side at home, this time Red Star 5-2.
As far as league form is concerned for the other Blues, they have been playing a little better recently under the stewardship of recently appointed new boss Matt Henney. Penrith having moved up to 18th of 24 teams in Northern League Division One after two wins on the bounce last time out, although their overall efforts have been poor this season with 11 wins, 4 draws and 15 defeats from their 30 games played.
The other semi-final meanwhile sees a Whitehaven derby with Mirehouse AFC taking on Whitehaven AFC, the sides having in the quarter-finals of the Cumberland Cup defeated Kirkoswald 2-0 and Silloth 3-0 respectively. Things take a big step up now though for West Cumbrian bragging rights in what promises to be a full-bloodied encounter at Newlands Avenue.
Cumberland Cup Semi-Final Draw
Mirehouse AFC v Whitehaven AFC
Carlisle United v Penrith AFC
*to be played on or by Saturday 6th April, and will be played in midweek if the home team's ground has floodlights.
