What A Load Of Old Balls (Part Two)

The big prize awaits
United fans were left waiting today as the Cumbrians were the 74th ball out of 80 pulled out of the bowl in a draw that was a farce from start to finish, both the BBC and SKY making numerous errors on their live coverage to add to Sir Trevor Booking announcing Southern Premier League leaders Kings Lynn twice in the draw and missing out Barnet (although you can hardly blame him for that).

The wait was hardly worth it either as Carlisle recieved their third away first round tie to a side in the West Country in three years. United's dreadful form on the road, which has seen them fail to win on their travels in their last 11 games, will be even more tested against a Swindon side who are fourth in League Two and have only lost twice at home all season, one of those defeats coming today in a table-topping clash against Lincoln City at the County Ground.

Carlisle's record in Wiltshire is hardly inspiring either as they have never won at Swindon in fourteen attempts, although the Robins have only been victorious in six of the matches, a hefty eight games ending in draws. The last time the two sides met at the County Ground was back in the 1995-96 season in Division Two (third tier) with the home side running out 2-1 winners courtesy of goals from Wayne Allison and Peter Thorne, the Cumbrians sole reply coming from Rory Delap.
