Kidderminster Harriers have confirmed the permanent signing of four trialists as they prepare for the Blue Square Premier season. Martin Riley, MARTIN BRITTAIN, Sam Foley and David McDermott have all signed contracts at Aggborough.

Northern League club Penrith have appointed RICHARD PROKAS and JAMES TOSE as joint-managers. This follows the decision by Dave Heslop to quit last week. Heslop had been manager at Penrith for six years. Prokas was assistant-manager to Heslop, but had left the club a fortnight ago. Tose has been combining working as Carlisle United's football in the community coach and managing Northern Alliance side Harraby Catholic Club.

Blue Square North club Blyth Spartans have announced the signing of promising young midfielder Ged Dalton on a one-year contract. The 18-year-old attacking midfielder has put pen-to-paper on a one-year deal and the agreement also includes an option to extend the deal for a further year.

UniBond League Division One North club Newcastle Blue Star have parted company with player-coaches Dean Gordon and MARK BIRCH - and installed former Gateshead player Steve Bowey as player-manager. Director of football Bob Morton insists the decision was made because the pair wish to continue playing, and he did not see them as being regular members of the squad.

Gretna FC (2008) kicked off the season with a 3-0 win away at Kelso. In the new Gretna line-up was former Gretna FC player MARK BIRCH who helped to control and inspire the defence, keeping the back line solid.

Former Gretna winger Brendan McGill has agreed to join Bohemians until the end of the season. McGill will be ineligible to participate in the FAI Ford Cup tie against Drogheda United tonight and the club is still awaiting international clearance. McGill, who was on Sunderland's books as a youth player, has also played for Carlisle United.

While Toronto FC announced Friday the acquisition of free-agent forward JOHANN SMITH from England's Bolton Wanderers, it was preparing to say goodbye to midfielder Maurice Edu who is on the verge of leaving for Rangers of the Scottish Premier League for a $5-million (U.S.) fee. Edu, last year's rookie of the year in Major League Soccer, has just returned from the Olympics where the U.S. team was eliminated by Nigeria 2-1 earlier this week.

Cambridge City strengthened their squad ahead of the opening game of the British Gas Business Southern League Premier Division season. Twenty-two-year-old Ramon Calliste joins City bringing with him a strong pedigree. He is a Welsh under-21 international striker who was released by Manchester United in 2005 and was immediately awarded a contract with Liverpool.

Annan-born midfielder Jordan Cranston has signed back on with the club after being out for a couple of years with a serious groin injury; 16-year-old forward, PHIL STOREY has come from the Carlisle youth set-up; and defender Adam Kassim was picked up after he impressed manager Harry Cairney during a trial spell with Stranraer.
