Footballer KEVIN HARPER yesterday admitted punching and kicking his wife and spitting at her. The Dunfermline Athletic striker attacked Linda Harper at Green Oakhill Road, Glasgow, on September 13.
At the city's sheriff court yesterday, Harper, 32, of Barloch Street, Possil, Glasgow, admitted assaulting Ms Harper by punching her on the body, kicking her and spitting at her to her injury. The former Hibs star's not guilty plea to a breach of the peace charge was accepted. Sentence was deferred for 12 months for Harper to be of good behaviour.
Blue Square Premier club Northwich Victoria have agreed permanent deals with defenders Mike Aspin and SIMON GRAND. The pair penned contracts this week that tie them to Vics until the end of the current campaign. "It's a huge boost," said owner Jim Rushe. "We've made no secret of the fact we wanted to get the pair of them on board so I'm glad that's been sorted. It gives them - and us - some security for the future."
Dungannon Swifts have appointed former Limavady United boss JOHN CUNNINGHAM as the club's new manager. Cunningham takes over from Harry Fay who was sacked from the role 10 days ago after a run of bad results. The club received 14 applications for the job and five candidates were interviewed for the role. "As a club, we're absolutely delighted to have secured a man of the calibre of John Cunningham for the job," said Swifts chairman Jarlath Faloon.
Northampton Town have agreed to extend the loan deal of Preston striker KARL HAWLEY for a further month. The second month runs up until and including the Oldham Athletic game on Saturday November 15th. "I am delighted that Karl is staying with us," said boss Stuart Gray.
Bromley are delighted to confirm the signing of former Crystal Palace forward Ashley Paul Robinson. Ashley joined Crystal Palace at the age of 14 and progressed through the ranks at Palace. He made his first team debut against Preston North End as a substitute back in March before making five further substitute appearances for the Eagles.
Stockport County have threatened to take legal action against Colchester United defender PAUL REID. Hatters boss Jim Gannon has said he will report Reid to the police after a challenge which saw Matt McNeil carried off with concussion on Saturday.
Gannon told BBC Radio Manchester: "We are collecting all the evidence and presenting it to the police. "It's up to them to take criminal proceedings against the player in question," he added. McNeil was taken to hospital but has since been discharged.
Defender Harry Worley's loan from Leicester City Football Club has today been extended by one extra month. The initial loan agreement would have seen him leave Luton after last Saturdays' game against Accrington Stanley, but the club has now secured the players' services for a further six games.
York City Manager Colin Walker, has signed 21 year old right sided midfielder GAVIN ROTHERY on a short term contract. Rothery played for City's Reserves against Hartlepool on Wednesday night and impressed enough to earn the offer from the City boss. His signature was secured in time to make him eligible for tomorrows FA Cup tie at home to Mansfield Town, K.O.3.00pm.
Darlington's Dave Penney has re-signed Southend United striker RICHIE FORAN for a month. Foran has not figured for the Blues in over a year after falling out of favour at Roots Hall. The forward, who can also play as a winger, has recently recovered from a knee injury.
Having joined Southend from Scottish Premier side Motherwell for £150,000 in January 2007 he has made only 23 appearances, scoring twice. He spent a spell at the Darlington Arena on loan last season.
