Former England semi-professional international TONY HEMMINGS has been named as Gary Norton's assistant-manager at UniBond League Division One South club Gresley Rovers following Steve Hinks' recent departure.

Dino Maamria has turned to a former England C international to bolster his leaky defence. Former Morecambe defender SIMON GRAND agreed non-contract terms with the Vics boss yesterday, Thursday. He goes straight into the squad for Sunday's trip to Torquay.

The 24-year-old comes with plenty of pedigree after playing a part in Carlisle United's Conference National winning side - earning a call up to the national non-league side - in 2005. He was also with the club when they earned a second successive promotion as League Two champions the following season.

ADAM MURRAY is stepping down as Oxford United captain, claiming the role has had a negative impact on his own form. The 26-year-old midfielder took over the captain's armband in the summer, when he replaced Barry Quinn, but the club must now decide on his successor.

Preston North End winger Joe Anyinsah has linked up with League One side Brighton & Hove Albion in a one-month loan deal. The former Bristol City man has yet to figure for the Lilywhites this season and spent much of last season out on loan at Carlisle and Crewe Alexandra.

Northampton Town have signed Preston North End striker KARL HAWLEY on an initial one-month loan. The 26-year-old joined Preston from Carlisle in June 2007 where he was a prolific goal-scorer. "I've been chasing Karl for a long time, I'm delighted to have him here," said Northampton manager Stuart Gray. "I think Karl knows this division well and I remember him taking my eye when he played against us for Carlisle in one of my first games in charge here."

Andy Preece has targetted a return to management after his long-running legal battle with Blue Square South club Worcester City has been resolved. Preece was seeking compensation after being dismissed from his position in October last year with around six months left to run on his contract. The matter has now been dealt with and the former Carlisle striker is eager to get back into coaching. No settlement details have been released.

Luton Town have secured the services of defender Harry Worley on a month's loan from League 1 Leicester City. Worley arrived at the Walkers Stadium in the summer after the Foxes fought off competition from several clubs to sign the highly rated youngster from Chelsea. The 19-year-old will wear the number 12 during his time with the Hatters.

Former Morecambe defender SIMON GRAND has landed a trial with Chester City. Grand, who played for Grimsby and Carlisle United prior to moving to Christie Park, has been on a week-to-week contract with Blue Square Premier side Northwich Victoria. Grand, who was released by Sammy McIlroy in June, played in a friendly with Wrexham in midweek.

The post Tony Greenwood era at Fleetwood Town kicks off tomorrow as players and fans start coming to terms with the absence of a person regarded as having one of the safest seats in non-League management.

Fleetwood aren't expected to waste any time replacing the man sacked this week after bringing the club three promotions in four years and the Blue Square North home match with Alfreton Town is sure to attract a host of hopefuls set on replacing Greenwood. Ex-Blackpool striker ANDY PREECE, who spent three years at Worcester City in the same league, is strongly tipped as the prime target.
