Greg Abbott's Carlisle second-string slipped to their second defeat of the season against the Tangerines reserves tonight, ex-Accrington Stanley midfielder Prendergast scoring the all-important only goal of the game in the 41st minute. Prendergast joining fellow 'Pool first-team hopefuls Lee Jones, Keigan Parker, Marc Joseph, Marcus Bean, Ciaran Donnelly, Jamie Burns and Matthew Blinkhorn in a strong looking Blackpool reserve team.

United meanwhile fielded a mixture of youth and experience with Glenn Murray featuring in a Cumbrians shirt for the first time in a two months after his loan spell at League Two Stockport County. The Blues were a little bit sloppy passing wise in the opening period, although they did defend well and it took the home side until four minutes before the interval to make the breakthrough. Prendergast hitting the back of the Carlisle net with a well-taken volley from a cross in by Ciaran Donnelly.

The Blues put on some pressure in the second-half as they looked to grab a leveller but unfortunately they couldn't find an equalising goal to go along with some impressive approach play. Matthew Brown in particular impressed in his first start at reserve team level and experienced midfield youth-teamer Shaun Vipond also put in a strong display. Just five games into the season though and the regaining of the title earned last year is looking a tough prospect.
