No more goals were scored before half-time but after the interval Gary Madine bagged two more to claim the matchball for his hat-trick, while the impressive Jeff Smith also chipped in with a single strike. Blackpool's solitary goal coming in the 80th minute when a ball in from Jake Hobbs took a wicked bounce in front of Chris Howarth and bobbled into the net past the Carlisle goalkeeper.
The big win means that the Cumbrians stay second in the table but Manchester City in first, and Burnley in third, do have games in hand on United. The Blues take a fortnight off now when some of those spare matches will no doubt be played, the next Carlisle second-string fixture coming on Monday the 30th of March when they face Preston North End in a 2pm kick-off at Brunton Park.
