Tranmere's title hopes have been all but dashed with two 1-0 defeats this week. An early Sean Paterson goal for Blackpool being enough to see off Rovers on Monday. Ex-Burnley man Marc Pugh then scoring in the 44th minute for Bury to give the Shakers the win against Tranmere on Wednesday night at Rivacre Park, the home of Vauxhall Motors.

That win means that the Gigg Lane outfit are making a late charge for the title, although table-toppers Carlisle United only need one win from their last two home games to take the crown. The Blues have been making hard work of it of late however, only taking one point from their last two outings and losing 1-0 at Chester on Wednesday afternoon, youngster Chris Holroyd bagging the all-important goal for the home side.

Preston have also only taken one point from the last six possible, losing 3-2 at home to Rochdale and drawing 1-1 against Burnley, again on their own turf. On Monday night against the 'Dale the Lilywhites threw away the win, when they were 2-0 up at half-time, only to ship three goals in the second-half, one in the last minute, to end up with nothing. Clive Moyo-Modise, Matty Williams and James McDonagh all finding the net for the visitors. On Wednesday evening Rob Turner put the Clarets ahead on 25 minutes but a young Preston side found the spirit to equalise just seven minutes later through Iain Howard. Burnley also played on Monday night when they went down 2-0 at Shrewsbury, Steve Hogg and Jack Watkins scoring the goals in the last 25 minutes to see off the East Lancashire outfit at Gay Meadow.

Blackpool slipped to a suprising defeat on Wednesday afternoon when they lost 2-1 at home to Wrexham. The Red Dragons scored early through Mark Williams only for a Cabbar Bagdagi strike to send the Seasiders in level at half-time. That was as good as it got for Blackpool though when ex-Hull striker Jon Walters bagged all three points for the visitors with a close-range effort midway through the second period. Wrexham couldn't take the second-string mini-derby bragging rights on Monday night though when they went down 2-1 at the Saunders Honda Stadium. Mark Cadawaller scored for the home side in the 37th minute, with Lee McEvilly netting an equaliser for the Welshmen after 57 minutes, City took the all plaudits however when midfielder James Scales hammered home a 25-yard effort just five minutes later.
