Tranmere were the big winners in the Pontin's Holidays League Division One West this week as they hammered Bury 4-0 away from home in a match played at The Inn2gether Stadium - the home of Radcliffe Borough. The score was 0-0 with 25 minutes to go though only for the Shakers second-string to fall apart late on and concede goals from Olly James and Danny Harrison while Chris Curran chipped in with a brace.

Accrington Stanley continued their good form with a 3-1 win at home to what is effectively Manchester City's third team. Andy Mangan opened the scoring for the home side on 13 minutes, Joel Byrom's free-kick after 27 minutes then doubling the Reds' half-time lead. Early in the second half, Stanley went three up when Phil Edwards got on the end of a corner and headed home, the Citizens only grabbing a consolation goal in reply with ten minutes to go through Ian Daly.

Preston lost their fourth match on the bounce at Irongate- the home of Bamber Bridge - when they went down 2-0 at home to Rochdale. North End second-string coach Billy Barr is struggling to get anything out of his side this season and the visitors were the better side for large chunks of the game against a team with packed with experienced professionals. Youngster Clive Moyo-Modise scored both goals for the 'Dale in the first-half on 15 minutes and 38 minutes, the striker coming close to bagging a hat-trick in the second period only for his shot to hit a post.

As we know, United slipped to their second defeat in their opening five matches as Blackpool won 1-0 at Highbury - the home of Fleetwood Town FC - courtesy of a 41st minute goal from ex-Accrington Stanley man Rory Prendergast. Meanwhile Oldham were unable to extend their lead at the top of the table when their scheduled match at home to Chester was postponed, after City officials contacted the Latics asking to rearrange the game with a virus ravaging the squad at the Deva Stadium.

Results in the division this week (all played Wednesday) :

Accrington Stanley 3-1 Manchester City
Blackpool 1-0 Carlisle
Bury 0-4 Tranmere
Oldham P-P Chester
Preston 0-2 Rochdale
