Tranmere missed the chance to go top of the Pontin's Holidays League Division One West table this week when they could only draw 2-2 at Chester City. The home side went 1-0 up in the 25th minute through Chris Holroyd only for Rovers to grab an equaliser 13 minutes into second-half as Danny Holmes fired in a fierce 25-yard effort. The visitors then went 2-1 up on 71 minutes with a goal from Danny Harrison only for City to this time to find a leveller with four minutes to go when Holroyd netted his second. As an aside the match contained an astonishing, for a second-string match, eleven bookings, both sides also being reduced to ten men late on as Chester's Sean Hessey and Tranmere's Michael Johnston were both shown second yellow cards.

Bury climbed up to fourth in the table with an excellent win on the road at Wrexham in a match played at Globe Way - the home of Buckley Town. Tom Youngs opened the scoring for the Shakers in the 25th minute and they doubled their lead ten minutes into the second-half when Red Dragons defender Simon Spender scored an own goal. Wrexham had skipper Gareth Evans sent off for a professional foul midway through the second period, while Bury sealed all three points with five minutes to go with a goal from Nicky Adams.

Manchester City's third team condemned Preston to their fifth straight defeat of the campaign as they won 1-0 at home to North End at the Manchester Regional Athletic Arena. Ashley Grimes' first-half goal was the difference in an open match where both sides had chances, City defending resolutely against an experienced Lilywhites side in the second-half to secure their first win since their opening fixture against Wrexham.

As we know a youthful United side came away from table-toppers Oldham with a creditable 1-1 draw, Glenn Murray's second-half goal cancelling out Matty Wolfenden's 13th minute opener for the Latics. Blackpool's home game against Rochdale was postponed following heavy rain on the Fylde Coast, that culminating in standing water on the playing surface at Highbury - the home of Fleetwood Town.

Blackpool P-P Rochdale (Wednesday - waterlogged pitch)
