Dark Lane
Oldham kept up their impressive form at the top of the table as they romped home 6-0 away to Rochdale in a match played at Dark Lane, the home of Rossendale United FC. The Latics going into the break two goals to the good thanks to a Mario Bryan own goal on five minutes and a header from Matty Barlow ten minutes later. Neil Wood, Ashley Kelly, Matt Wolfenden and Deane Smalley all bagging a goal apiece after the interval as Oldham completed the rout.

Tranmere kept up the heat in second place though as they defeated Manchester City 3-1 in a home match played at Rivacre Park, the home of Vauxhall Motors. Rovers taking the lead with the first shot of the match on nine minutes as Craig Curran fired home, on 20 minutes the Tranmere advantage was then doubled when Olly James volleyed in from 20 yards out. Steve Jennings all but sealed the win for Rovers on 64 minutes, with City only able to take away a late consolation goal from Angelos Tsiaklis with two minutes to go for their efforts.

Chester grabbed their first win of the second-string campaign as they triumphed 1-0 at Bury in a match played at The Inn2gether Stadium, the home of Radcliffe Borough, the Shakers having had to play a weakened team due to their involvement in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy on Tuesday night. The only goal of the game being scored by first year professional striker Chris Holroyd as City earned their first victory at the sixth attempt.

Preston were another side gaining their first victory at the sixth attempt as they defeated Wrexham 2-1 at Irongate, the home of Bamber Bridge. The Lilywhites certainly left it late for the win though after Levi Mackin had given the Red Dragons a third minute lead as he converted a Jamie Reed cross. Somehow North End sneaked all three points though with an 89th minute goal from Alan McCormack and then a winner two minutes into injury time from substitute Chris McGrail.

As we know, Carlisle lost their third match in their opening seven games, a fifth minute Andy Smith goal condemning them to defeat at home to Accrington Stanley. The Blues second-string have a fortnight out of action now, one being a divisional rest week and the other being a bye week due to the odd number of teams in the division, their next match being away to Manchester City at the Regional Athletic Arena on Wednesday the 8th of November.

Results in the division this week, all played Wednesday :

Bury 0-1 Chester
Carlisle 0-1 Accrington Stanley
Preston 2-1 Wrexham
Rochdale 0-6 Oldham
