Oldham leapfrogged Blackpool and moved into second spot with a 1-0 win away to wooden-spoon hunting Chester City. Young striker Deane Smalley was the hero for the Latics as his 79th minute header secured the victory. Northern Ireland international trialist goalkeeper Alan Blayney impressed in the game for Oldham and has since signed a contract at Boundary Park until the end of the season. In other Latics reserve team news the Oldham second-string will play four of their remaining six home games at Bower Fold, Stalybridge in order to protect the Boundary Park pitch.
The only other match in the division saw Bury thump near neighbours Rochdale 4-1 in a fixture played at The Inn2gether Stadium, the home of Radcliffe Borough FC. Youth teamers Dale Stephens (2), Domaine Rouse and Jake Speight scored the goals for the Shakers, all three of the youngsters having been handed first team squad numbers at Gigg Lane this week.
United's twice rearranged match at Wrexham on Monday was postponed yet again because of a waterlogged pitch at Buckley Town FC which leaves the Blues with a gruesome looking fixture backlog after nine weeks without a game. Carlisle now having ten second-string matches to play in just over two months before the end of the season.
