Oldham increased their lead at the top of the table to four points, although the chasing pack behind them do all have games in hand. The Latics played two matches this week as they drew 0-0 away to Wrexham on Monday and defeated Bury 2-1 at home on Wednesday. The match against the Red Dragons was played on a bobbly pitch at Globe Way, Buckley Town FC, and with chances at a premium, a final scoreline of 0-0 always looked the most likley outcome.

Meanwhile the Wednesday fixture at home to the Shakers was moved from Boundary Park to Bower Fold, Stalybridge Celtic FC in order to preserve the Oldham pitch in their crucial play-off contending run-in. The visitors went 1-0 up through Tom Youngs but the Latics showed their table-topping qualities as they scored twice in the last 18 minutes to claim all three points, the goals coming from Marcus Holness on 72 and Deane Smalley six minutes from time.

Blackpool blew their chance to keep pace with the Latics in the upper reaches at they lost 1-0 at home to Chester in a match played at Highbury, the home of Fleetwood Town FC. Lee Steele scored the only goal of the game for City with the win, coupled with Wrexham gaining a point on Monday, dumping Carlisle, who lost 2-0 at Tranmere, to the bottom of the table, Craig Curran and Calvin Zola being the Rovers goalscorers. United's next fixture is away to Accrington Stanley next Wednesday in a 2pm kick-off at the Fraser Eagle stadium.
