Oldham extended their lead at the top of the table to seven points on Thursday night as they thumped Rochdale 4-0 at home, in a match played at Bower Fold, Stalybridge Celtic FC. Bizarrely enough all the Latics goals came in the opening 28 minutes of the game with two players in Deane Smalley (6 + 28) and Kallum Higginbotham (9 + 22) grabbing a brace apiece. The match also saw 17-year old Canadian midfield trialist James Twinem complete 72 minutes for the home side before being substituted.

Accrington, of course, defeated Carlisle 3-2 on Wednesday night to move up to second in the table, thanks to goals from Michael Welch, Danny Ventre and Andrew Smith, with Gary Madine and Neale McDermott from the penalty spot replying for the Cumbrians. That win took Stanley above Tranmere in the division, Rovers perhaps surprisingly losing 1-0 at Manchester City on the same evening. The only goal of the game at the Regional Athletic Arena coming the way of the Citizens through James Poole on 25 minutes.

Bury consolidated their fifth spot in the table with a 1-0 win at Chester City on Wednesday night. The game at the Saunders Honda Stadium saw the Shakers claim late all three points late on thanks to a tidy finish from Tom Youngs, who was partnered upfront with Wigan trialist Jonathan Smith.

An entertaining game at Globe Way, Buckley Town FC on Monday evening saw Wrexham win 4-2 at home to Preston North End. Neil Mellor opened the scoring for the visitors inside ten minutes before the Red Dragons equalised bang on half-time with a penalty scored by Mike Carvill, the Irish striker netting at the second attempt after the referee had spotted some encroachment on his initial saved spot-kick.

Preston went 2-1 up on 61 minutes from an Adam Nowland free-kick but it was the home side who scored the next three goals in the the space of eight minutes to record an emphatic 4-2 victory. Matty Done equalising on 72 before Levi Mackin gave the Welshmen the lead just sixty seconds later, the icing on the Wrexham cake coming when Josh Johnson fired home with ten minutes to go.
