Chester stay at the top of the table following an entertaining 0-0 draw at the Deva Stadium in a mini-derby against rock-bottom Wrexham. Both sides had chances to win the game but some good goalkeeping and profligate finishing ensured that neither side could claim all three points.

Preston stay in second spot after drawing 1-1 at home to Morecambe at Deepdale. The Shrimps took the lead with 20 minutes on the clock when Jamie Burns curled home an excellently taken free-kick. North End levelling midway through the second-half when Neil Mellor scored yet again for the Lilywhites second-string.

Burnley kept up their good run of reserve team form with a 5-2 away to Rochdale, in a match played at Dark Lane, the home of Rossendale United. The Clarets had to come from behind too with the 'Dale going two goals up thanks to strikes from Kallum Higginbotham and Ben Wharton, with Burnley pulling a goal back just before the break when Steve Jones netted.

The visitors came roaring back in the second-half though and further goals from David Unsworth, Ade Akinbiyi, James O'Connor and Jay Rodriguez meant that the three points went back on the bus to Turf Moor, along with an extremely experienced Burnley side that had been put out on the night.

Tranmere were surprisingly thumped 3-0 at home to Manchester City at Prenton Park. The visitors taking the lead on 16 minutes with a Paul Marshall deflected free-kick, two more goals in three minutes around the 56 minute mark from Angelos Tsialklis and David Ball making sure of the win for the Citizens.

Blackpool notched their second win in six games with a 4-1 victory away to Bury, in a match played at the Inn2gether Stadium, Radcliffe Borough FC. The Seasiders took the lead through Scott Vernon before the Shakers equalised through a disputed Jordan Stepian penalty. After the break Pool's strength showed and they ran out comfortable winners thanks to a brace from substitute Danny Mitcheley and a late strike from Claus Jorgensen.

As we already know Carlisle lost 4-2 at Accrington Stanley yesterday, while scoring doesn't seem to be a problem for United stopping the goals going in at the other end certainly seems to be. Things won't get much easier in the next reserve outing either as United face a free-scoring Preston North End outfit at Brunton Park on Wednesday 24th October in a 7pm kick-off.
