Morecambe slipped back into second place after losing 2-0 at home to Tranmere. Rovers taking the lead at Christie Park just before the interval when Ryan Fraughan scored after a neat move forward involving Ryan Mitchell, Mike Jones and Craig Curran. In the 56th minute though Curran did all the work himself as his solo run and goal sealed all three points for Tranmere.
Moving up into fourth in the table are Blackpool who defeated Chester 2-0 at home, the match being played at Highbury, the home of Fleetwood Town FC. The goals for the Seasiders second-string coming in either half from Michael D'Agostino in the opening period and then Danny Mitchley after the interval.
None of the bottom four clubs in the table played league fixtures this week so it's into the mid-table reaches now where Accrington Stanley thumped Manchester City 4-0 on the road at the Regional Athletics Arena. Leighton McGivern grabbed a hat-trick for the Reds, one of which came from the penalty spot after City's Ben Morris was sent off for deliberate handball, the other Stanley goal coming from John Miles.
As we know, Carlisle's reason for a week off from the Pontin's Holidays League was their Cumberland Cup match at home to Kirkoswald which they comfortably won 7-0. The second-string division takes it's second week off in the last three weeks next Wednesday due to the scheduling of the FA Youth Cup, United's next reserve match coming in a fortnight's time when they face Blackpool at Brunton Park.
