Bury claimed only their fourth win of the second-string season as they defeated Tranmere 2-1 at Prenton Park. Rovers actually took the lead on 50 minutes through Terry Gornell, but that advantage didn't last long as Dale Stephens levelled for the Shakers just sixty seconds later. The visitors then bagging all three points when Luke Holmes netted Bury's winner in the 82nd minute.
Chester and Accrington Stanley fought out a 1-1 draw at the Deva Stadium on Wednesday afternoon, City's goal coming from Andy Mitchell. The last scheduled game in the division, apart from Carlisle, was supposed to be Manchester City at home to Wrexham, but that clash was postponed due to the continued involvement of the Citizens in the FA Youth Cup.
Outside league duties, Morecambe, a surprise second in the table, have continued their excellent first season at this level of reserve team football by reaching the Pontin's Holidays League Cup final this week. The Shrimps, who will face West Brom in that final, having defeated Leicester City 1-0 at home in their semi-final on Wednesday night, the only goal of the game coming from Stewart Drummond in the 61st minute.
As we already know a strong Carlisle side limped to a 1-0 victory at home to Rochdale on Wednesday night thanks to a second-half strike from Danny Carlton. United's next chance of extending their recent good run coming on Wednesday afternoon when they face Manchester City in a 2pm kick-off at the Regional Athletics Arena.
