Two games and two contrasting results for Morecambe this week saw them win 5-1 at Accrington Stanley on Monday and then lose 4-1 at a rapidly improving Manchester City outfit on Wednesday. Despite both Morecambe and Accrington now being in the Football League their official websites are still Unibond League standard unfortunately, with neither site having any record of the goalscorers from Monday's game.
At the Regional Athletics Arena on Wednesday the Shrimps then blew their chance of hitting the top of table, with Manchester City themselves now only three points off the summit. The goals for the Citizens coming from a Jack Redshaw brace, plus one each from Gary Nolan and substitute Lee Hulme, before Morecambe grabbed a late consolation strike.
With Wrexham winning, and Blackpool defeating Bury 4-1 at home, in a match played at Highbury, the home of Fleetwood Town, only six points now seperates the top seven. The victory for the Seasiders coming thanks to goals from Dominic Morella, Keith Southern, a Simon Wiles penalty and Spurs-loanee Joe Martin (son of Alvin), while Kevin Fields scored last in the game for the Shakers.
As we already now United got back to winning ways as a Kevin Gall first-half strike sealed a 1-0 win in a tight encounter away to Burnley at Accrington Stanley's Fraser Eagle Stadium. Carlisle's next chance for a second-string victory coming next Wednesday night when they visit Tranmere's Prenton Park in a 7pm kick-off.
