In the big clash between the two probable title chasers table-toppers Manchester City came out best as they defeated Burnley 3-2 at home at the Regional Athletics Arena. The Clarets taking the lead through Dom Knowles only for City's John Guidetti to ensure that the scoreline was 1-1 at half-time.

After the interval Burnley retook the lead in the 48th minute when Wes Fletcher scored, only for the Citizens to once more find an equaliser just four minutes later after James Poole fired home. Prolific City youngster Jack Redshaw then netting midway through the second half to claim all three points for the home side.

In fifth place in the division are Tranmere and they drew 1-1 at Bury on Wednesday afternoon, in a match played at Radcliffe Borough's Stainton Park. The Rovers goal coming from the boot of youth teamer Jay Ashcroft while as usual the Bury scorer goes completely unreported.

Preston haven't had the best of second-string seasons by their standards but they did defeat Morecambe 1-0 at home this week, the game taking place at Bamber Bridge's Irongate ground. The only goal of a tight encounter being scored by former Burnley youngster Rob Turner as he headed home from an Adam Barton cross.

Accrington meanwhile stay at the foot of the table after losing 2-1 at home to Rochdale. The visitors taking the lead on 55 minutes from a free-kick by Everton teenage trialist Tom McCready, with Stanley then equalising courtesy of their own trialist, in Jonathan Lynch, after 86 minutes. 'Dale weren't to be denied though and Josh Brizzell scored their winner just sixty seconds later.

As we already know Carlisle hammered Blackpool 6-1 on the road last night, Gary Madine (3), Conor Tinnion, Michael Burns and Jeff Smith netting for United while Jake Hobbs was on the scoresheet for the Seasiders. The Blues take a fortnight off now with the next Carlisle second-string fixture coming on Monday the 30th of March when they face Preston North End in a 2pm kick-off at Brunton Park.
