At the top of the table Manchester City slumped to a surprise 2-1 defeat at Morecambe. A James Poole penalty having the visitors 1-0 ahead at Christie Park at the interval, only for the home side to grab all three points when Aaron Taylor and Henry McStay netted, the Shrimps hanging on for the win despite having Fraser McLachlan sent off late on for picking up two yellow cards.

Burnley, in third with a couple of games in hand, continue to put pressure on the Citizens after they won 4-1 at Rochdale, the match being played at Dark Lane, Rossendale United. The Clarets scoring three goals in almost as many minutes around the 20 minute mark through an Alex MacDonald penalty, Wes Fletcher and James Craggs, Fletcher then scoring his second goal of the game on 75 minutes before Tom Buckley bagged a consolation strike for the 'Dale two minutes later.

Down near the bottom of the table Preston played two matches this week, their first being a 1-1 draw at Carlisle on Monday, with Grant Smith for United cancelling out an early Rob Turner goal for North End. Turner going on to score again at Stainton Park, Radcliffe Borough FC, this time after 15 minutes as the Lilywhites won a tight game 1-0 away to Bury on Wednesday.

With the Shakers losing Accrington pulled level on points in the battle to avoid the wooden spoon with a 3-0 win at Tranmere's Prenton Park on Wednesday, Sean McConville grabbing a brace of goals for the home side as Andy Smith scored the other.

That being a better result at the Fraser Eagle Stadium for Stanley than their 2-0 defeat in the semi-final of the League Cup against Sunderland on Monday afternoon, Martyn Waghorn scoring both goals for the Black Cats in the second-half. The Wearsiders now facing Derby County away in the final on Wednesday the 22nd of April in a 7pm kick-off at Pride Park.

Next week sees five fixtures on the go as sides try to cram in all their remaining games before the end of the season in a month's time. United though only have three matches left and the first of those comes at Radcliffe Borough on Wednesday night when they play away to Rochdale in a 7pm kick-off.
